‘Earthquake awareness programme’ at Indreshwori
SINDHUPALCHOWK: NOV. 16 – An ‘earthquake awareness program in school’ has been organized at a local Indreshwori Secondary School of Melamchi Bazar.
At the program organized with assistance from a university of Switzerland, orientation was provided to students and teachers on how the human loss could be minimized in the earthquake, according to school teacher Lekhnath Bhattarai.
Trainer and expert on earthquake, Shiva Subedi, informed the research had shown that the force concentrated under the surface of western belt of Nepal could cause earthquake measuring up to eight Richter scale. As it is a natural disaster, it can not be controlled but the loss it causes can be minimized with massive public awareness and preparedness.
On the occasion, the former principal of the school, Radhakrishna Shrestha, said a seismometer was installed at Indreshwori Secondary School with the assistance of Melamchi Municipality. It is helpful to teach students how the earthquake is measured and the structures get damaged with quakes.
Moreover, the expert informed that the seismometers were installed at 22 schools of Nepal under the ‘Earthquake awareness program in school’. Even the technical skills of installation were shared under the program, he added.
