CM Rai taking a vote of confidence today
KATHMANDU: NOV. 16 – CM of State 1 Rajendra Rai is to take a vote of confidence today. A meeting of the state assembly has been called for this at 12:30 pm.
According to the State Assembly Secretariat, the meeting will discuss his vote of confidence. Earlier on Sunday, Rai had registered a notice in the Parliament Secretariat seeking a vote of confidence from the House as per the rules of procedure of the state assembly.
After the resignation of the then Chief Minister Bhim Acharya, a new state government was formed on Nov. 2 under the leadership of CPN-U leader Rai. The five-party ruling coalition has 50 MPs. The 93-member state assembly currently has 92 members. The coalition has 21 MPs from the Congress, 15 from the Maoist Center, 10 from the CPN-U, three from the JSP and one from the Federal Democratic Forum.
The main opposition UML has 41 MPs. Subtracting one Speaker and one absconding Member of Parliament reduces his vote count to 39. Therefore, the ruling coalition can easily get a vote of confidence.
