UML raising general convention expenses from leaders and cadres
CHITWAN: NOV. 9 – The expenses of the 10th General Convention of the CPN (UML) will be borne by the party members. The general convention is being held in Chitwan from November 26 to 28. It has been decided to raise a levy from party members.
Surendra Pandey, co-coordinator of the General Convention Main Management Committee, informed that it has been decided to raise Rs. 100 from one member.
The CPN (UML) has seven lakh members. It is estimated to raise Rs. 70 million. He informed that Rs. 2,000 would be collected from the General Convention delegates and Rs. 3,000 from the Central Committee members. Charges are also being levied from those in the position of profit.
According to Pandey, it has not been decided yet how much will be collected from them. He informed that a circular has been issued to raise the levy of others. Electronic voting will be held in the General Convention. One hundred electronic devices will be kept for voting.
The inaugural session of the General Convention is being held at Narayani Bank, Narayangadh, Chitwan. It is estimated that around five lakh leaders and cadres from all over the country will be present on the occasion. The closed session is being held at Baghmara Chaur in Sauraha.
Pandey said that the estimated amount of expenditure has not been received from all the departments. He informed that Rs. 60 million was spent in the ninth general convention and Rs. 30 million in the eighth general convention. At the same time, it is seen that the CPN-UML will not raise donations for the general convention.
The CPN-UML Central Committee has 225 members. Of them, 15 are office-bearers. According to Pandey, there will be one chairman, one senior vice-chairman, four vice-chairmen, one general secretary, one deputy secretary-general and seven secretaries.
They will be elected from the General Convention. Co-coordinator Pandey said that 2,000 delegates would participate in the convention. The general convention scheduled to be held in Butwal has been shifted to Chitwan recently.
