Chief of Army Staff Sharma leaves for India
KATHMANDU: NOV. 9 – Chief of Army Staff Prabhu Ram Sharma has left for New Delhi today (Tuesday) at 8 am for an official visit to India. This is Sharma’s first visit to India. According to the Nepal Army, Chief of Army Staff Sharma went to India on an army aircraft with a nine-member military team. Chief of Army Staff Sharma has left for New Delhi, India on a Casa aircraft
He is on a visit to India from Nov. 9 to 12 at the invitation of Indian Army Chief MM Naravane. Maharathi Sharma was accorded a farewell guard by an army contingent on Monday.
On the occasion of the visit, Chief of Army Staff Sharma is scheduled to be honored by the President of India with the honorary title of Maharathi of the Indian Army. According to the Military Public Relations and Information Directorate, there is a program to honor him on Wednesday.
Nepal and India have a unique tradition of conferring the status of honorary Maharathi on the Chiefs of Army Staff of each other’s countries. According to records, Nepal’s Chief of Army Staff Surendra Bahadur Shah has first conferred the title of Manartha Maharathi of the Indian Army in 2026 BS. During his visit to New Delhi, Chief of Army Staff Sharma is scheduled to hold talks with his counterpart General Naravane and other senior Indian Army officials.
