Pollution in Delhi reaches dangerous levels, affecting Nepal

KATHMANDU: NOV. 6 – Air pollution has reached dangerous levels in the Indian capital New Delhi due to Diwali crackers. Despite the ban, the sky is overcast as people across the city firecrackers.

Vehicles and industrial emissions, dust and weather have made Delhi one of the most polluted capitals in the world. The air in Delhi has become toxic due to the smoke of straw burning in neighboring states in winter. The PM2.5 level of dangerously small pollutants in the air on Friday was 999 per cubic meter in some parts of Delhi, which is the highest number shown in air quality measuring machines.

Amounts above 2.5 PM2.5 were recorded in many places. This amount is a level that seriously affects public health. In the air quality index AQI, the quantity from zero to 50 is considered good and the quantity between 51 and 100 is considered satisfactory.

The city is in the throes of pollution, with many people reporting sore eyes and sore throats. India is the most polluted country in the world. India has 22 of the world’s 30 most polluted cities. According to experts, India’s polluted air kills one million people every year.

Delhi has the highest pollution, followed by Kathmandu at 13th

The air quality index AQI rose to 561 by 10:59 a.m. on Friday as air quality deteriorated in Delhi. Kyrgyzstan’s Bishkek is second with 279 AQI, China’s Beijing is third with 196 AQI, and Pakistan’s Lahore is fourth with 193 AQI. Kathmandu is in 13th place with 104 AQI.

Delhi impact on Nepal

Air pollution in the Terai region of Nepal has reached an unhealthy state. With air pollution in Delhi reaching dangerous levels, pollution in the Terai region has also increased.

It has been a few days since the rains stopped and the cold weather has just started. Meteorologist Barun Poudel said that the increase in air pollution in India has affected the Terai region of Nepal. “Especially when there is no rain for a long time, the pollution increases,” he said. According to him, the current pollution will not last long.
