Nepal Sambat started from today [Photos]

KATHMANDU: NOV. 5 – Nepal Sambat 1142 has started from Friday (today). Nepal Sambat is believed to have started from Bikram Sambat 937. The Newar community in particular celebrates the Nepal Sambat with ‘Nhu Danya Bhintuna’. They celebrate the Nepal Sambat on a large scale by exchanging New Year wishes.

Shankhadhar Sakhwa is considered to be the pioneer of Nepal Sambat. The Newar community especially celebrates ‘Nhu Danya Bhintuna’ to celebrate the waiver of loans to all farmers. Nepal Sambat 1129, i.e. Bikram Sambat 2065 BS, the Government of Nepal has recognized Nepal Sambat as the National Sambat.

This evening, Newar communities perform Mha Puja or self-worship. In the evening, the Newari community gathers all the members of the family in one place and worships themselves, believing that success in all endeavors is possible only through self-satisfaction. In Newari, Mha means body.
