KATHMANDU: NOV. 3 – The second big festival of Hindus, Tihar, has started from today. Celebrated for five days from Kartik Krishna Triodashi to Kartik Shulka Dwitiya, it is customary to worship various creatures associated with nature and human life. Due to the change of date, Crow Festival and Dog Festival are being celebrated on the same day.

Dog festival i.e. Narak Chaturdashi is celebrated on the second day of Yamapanchak i.e. Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi. On this day, dogs are worshiped and their favorite food is fed. The Hindus worship the dog not only as the messenger of Yamaraj but also as the vehicle of Bhairav.

In Hindu scriptures, it is mentioned that dogs guard the salvation gate of Yamalok till death. Since the beginning of human civilization, dogs have been helping mankind at all times.

Nowadays, dogs are used not only as home guards but also for criminal detection and high-level security activities. Dogs have a history of being involved in various activities during the First and Second World Wars.
