Karnali State Chief calls assembly members to claim for CM post
KATHMANDU: NOV. 2 – Chief of Karnali Province Govinda Prasad Kalauni has called the members of state assembly to claim for the post of the chief minister.
In the context of no political party having a clear majority in the state assembly, the members are called to claim for CM post ensuring majority with the support of two or more political parties within 7:30 pm today.
Earlier, Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi had tendered resignation before Province Chief Kalauni in accordance with Article 169 (1. a) of the Constitution of Nepal on Monday. State Chief had approved Shahi’s resignation and called for a new government giving a 24-hour deadline on Monday itself.
A press release issued by Shahi mentioned that he tendered resignation as part of the implementation of an agreement with the Nepali Congress on the ruling province government. Shahi had been appointed the CM on February 15, 2018.
The NC than in opposition later joined the government with two ministers from the party as per the latest agreement for power-sharing with CPN (Maoist Centre).
It is said NC parliamentary party leader Jeevan Bahadur Shahi is becoming the new CM as per agreement among NC, Maoist Centre and CPN (Unified Socialist).
There are 12 members of the Maoist Centre, 6 of NC and three of CPN (Unified Socialist) in the Karnali state assembly.
