Risky Manang: Travel unpaved roads, wooden bridges
POKHARA: OCT. 31 – The road to Manang deteriorates as soon as there is little rain. The road built by digging huge cliffs is always dangerous. Fear of landslides as soon as it rains. Manang was torn apart by the floods on June 15.
There was no traffic on the road. After about four months of continuous maintenance, the vehicle was to run directly from Besisahar to Chame. It rained again on Kartik 2 (Oct. 19). The repaired road was similarly damaged.
Now it has been repaired and made to run small vehicles. Under the leadership of the District Administration Office, the damaged roads have been repaired and wooden bridges have been installed on the damaged bridges. “This road is the lifeline of Manang. A wooden bridge has been built over more than half a dozen rivers from Besisahar to Khangsar. Large vehicles have to cross this bridge. The Besisahar Chame Road Project has proposed to the government to build 21 concrete bridges on this road. However, the work has not progressed.
Bally bridge was built at Ghoptebhir last year and another bridge was built at Mardi before that. Chief of the Irrigation Office of Manang, Dhaka Ram Acharya, said that the risk of the bridge has increased as heavy vehicles started moving to Manang with the pressure of passengers.

The 65 km Besisahar-Chame road is 35 km towards Lamjung and 30 km towards Manang. Above Chame, there is an infrastructure development office under the state government.
