Exciting win for West Indies, Bangladesh out
KATHMANDU: OCT. 29 – West Indies have won their first match of the T20 World Cup. The West Indies maintained their mathematical chances of reaching the semi-finals with a thrilling three-run victory over Bangladesh on Friday. This is West Indies’ first win in a third game. With the defeat, Bangladesh is out of the competition.
Batting first after losing the toss, West Indies lost 7 wickets and made a medium score of 142 runs. But Bangladesh’s batsman could not complete the target. Bangladesh’s hopes were dashed when West Indies’ Dwayne Bravo threw a dot ball with four runs needed in the last ball.
However, batting first, the West Indies, despite their star players, were able to perform only once again. Openers Chris Gayle (4) and Evin Lewis (6) were all out for a while.
Chase, batting third, scored 39 off 46 balls. Nicholas Pooran played an explosive innings to take the West Indies to a medium score. He scored 44 off 22 balls. Kieron Pollard remained unbeaten on 14 as Jason Holder remained at the crease, scoring 15 off five balls.
Mehidy Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam took 2-2 wickets apiece for Bangladesh.
Chasing the target of 143 runs, Bangladesh also fell victim to bad batting. For him, Liton Das and captain Mahmudullah shared 40 runs for the fifth wicket to put Bangladesh back in the game.
But Bangladesh were under pressure after Liton Das was caught on the boundary by Jason Holder off Bravo for 44. However, Captain Mahmudullah kept his hopes alive till the end. He scored 31 runs off 24 balls. But in the last ball, he could not add a run.
Bangladesh opener Mohammad Naeem scored 17 runs while Shakib Al Hasan was dismissed for 9 runs. Similarly, Soumya Sarkar scored 17 runs and Mushfiqur Rahman scored 8 runs.
