Training of enumerators in State 1 from tomorrow

BIRATNAGAR: OCT. 29 – The Department of Statistics has launched the program under the second phase of the 12th National Census 078. The department, which completed the household listing in the first phase, has now entered the basic census phase.

Speaking at a workshop organized by Media Action for journalists in collaboration with the Department of Statistics, Keshav Gautam, director of the department, said that training for enumerators has started in State 1. According to Gautam, the original census will be conducted for 15 days from November 11 to 25 as the households have been listed in the first phase.

He said that additional process has been started as there are 13 days left for the census. According to him, the statistics department will collect data of 30 million population of about 7 million families. We have been preparing for the census since the last fiscal year. Gautam said that the sample selection method used in the previous census was not used in the census due to the new structure of the country.

Chief of the Census Office of State. 1, Tirtha Raj Baral, said that the statistics department was preparing for the census. He said that training for enumerators will be given in State 1 from Saturday. 39,000 enumerators will reach the homes of citizens across the country.

Baral informed that census offices are working in the districts for the census. He said that 2/2 offices have been set up in Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts and one office will be set up in other districts.

The District Coordinating Committee will be chaired by the District Level Census Facilitation Mechanism. Such members will include the mayor and deputy mayor of the municipality and the chairman and vice-chairman of the village as the district census officer.

It is stated that the community questionnaire will have ward level with 25 questions of house and household cost listing in the national census questionnaires and 55 questions in the main questionnaire.

This year’s household listing was scheduled for Baishakh (April/May) and Jestha (May/June), but was delayed due to COVID-19. According to the department, Rs 4.5 billion will be spent to complete the census.
