Nepali migrant workers in UAE demand for effective implementation of labour agreement

KATHMANDU: OCT. 28 – Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Krishna Kumar Shrestha, Krishna Kumar Shrestha, has said that the government has forwarded a campaign to make foreign employment safe, dignified and systematic.

During an interaction with Nepali Community organised by Nepali Embassy in Abu Dhabi today, Minister Shrestha, who is in the United Arab Emirates leading a Nepali delegation to attend the Sixth Ministerial-Level Abu Dhabi Dialogue, shared that the government has been raising voices for the Nepali workers in abroad.

On the occasion, he added that his meeting with the Minister for Human Resources of UAE, Dr Abdulrahman Al Awar, on the matter of labour rights and skill development of Nepali workers was fruitful.

A discussion was also held on opportunities and challenges in the labour, skill and investment sectors in UAE. More than 200,000 Nepalis are in the UAE, the attractive labour destination of Nepal.

The Nepali workers had drawn the attention of Minister Shrestha regarding the problems they are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic and effective implementation of the labour agreement signed between Nepal and UAE.

Secretary of the Ministry, Surya Prasad Gautam, Nepali Ambassador to UAE, Krishna Prasad Dhakal, Under-Secretary of the Ministry Dr Thaneshwor Bhusal, employees of Nepali Embassy, representatives of Nepali organisations and representatives of Non-Resident Nepali Association, Nepali workers were present at the interaction.

The Nepali delegation is scheduled to return home on Saturday.
