KATHMANDU: OCT. 28 – CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Rajendra Pandey, who is about to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bagmati State, has clarified that there is no agreement with the Congress to become the Chief Minister for half a term. “I will run it all,” Pandey told reporters on Thursday. A friend insisted that the Unified Socialists and the Maoists were compatible. Now that was not advice. ‘
In Bagmati, Congress has also sought the turn of the Chief Minister. Leader of the parliamentary party Indra Baniya had also proposed that the Congress-Unified Socialists should run for half term. Baniya had already proposed to Pandey. However, no agreement was reached on the issue.
The agreement to form a government led by the Unified Socialists in Bagmati is being shared by the ministries in the central alliance. However, the last meeting of the Congress parliamentary parties decided to claim half the term of the chief minister.
With the resignation of Chief Minister Astalaxmi Shakya, the way has been opened for Pandey to become the Chief Minister. After Madhav Kumar Nepal split the UML and formed a unified socialist party, Chief Minister Shakya was in the minority in the state. He had only 43 MPs. However, he needed 55 MPs. After this, Chief Minister Shakya announced her resignation from the state assembly meeting on Wednesday.
Pandey, who is set to become the next chief minister, is taking an oath of office and secrecy today. In addition, a four-member cabinet will be formed today.
