Will the Chief Minister of State 1 resign?
BIRATNAGAR: OCT. 22 – Chief Minister of State 1 Bhim Prasad Acharya has to table a motion of confidence in the state assembly today. But before that, the possibility of resigning seems strong.
As the meeting of the CPN-UML parliamentary party has started at the office of the parliamentary party, there is a possibility of resigning from the post along with the meeting of the party, said an MP. He said that the CPN-UML, which had 41 MPs in the state assembly, needed 47 MPs to get the vote of confidence, but was in the process of resigning as there was no possibility of getting those MPs.
The meeting of the CPN-UML State 1 Parliamentary Party has started. A UML lawmaker said that a vote of confidence or resignation would be discussed at the meeting. The meeting will decide whether to take a vote of confidence or pave the way by resigning. The UML government is in the minority after 10 members of the CPN-UML joined the Unified Socialists in State 1.
After Sherdhan Rai resigned from the post of Chief Minister on Sept. 5, Acharya, who became the Chief Minister as the leader of the party, had filed a motion of no-confidence in the Statel Assembly Secretariat on Oct. 11. After a long tenure, the motion of confidence is being tabled in the state assembly today.
In the 93-member state assembly, UML has 41 members, including the speaker. A member of the state assembly is absconding in the case of stealing government documents. Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections. The meeting of the state assembly has been called to be held at 1 pm today.
