Nepal’s FIFA rankings have slipped one place

KATHMANDU: OCT. 22 –  Nepali national football team’s FIFA ranking has dropped. Nepal is ranked 169th in the new rankings released by the International Football Federation (FIFA) on Thursday. Earlier, on September 16, Nepal was ranked 168th.

Nepal had reached the final in the SAFF championship held last week. Nepal had won 2 out of 5 matches, drawn 1 match and lost 2 matches. Before that, Nepal has drawn one and lost the other two friendly matches against India.

Nepal had lost twice along with India in the SAFF Championship. It was defeated 3-0 in the final held on Oct. 16. SAFF Championship winners India remain top in South Asia.

India’s ranking has improved one place over last month. India has reached the 100th position. Similarly, in South Asia, Maldives is ranked 156th above Nepal and Nepal is ranked third.

Bhutan is ranked 186th, Bangladesh 187th, Pakistan 197th and Sri Lanka 204th. Apart from Pakistan and Bhutan, five nations had participated in the fair championship in Maldives. According to FIFA.com, Belgium tops the world rankings, followed by Brazil.

France climbed to third and Italy to fourth, while England dropped to fifth. Argentina is sixth, Spain seventh, Portugal eighth, Mexico ninth and Denmark tenth.
