23 missing, seven houses buried in landslide in Bajhang

DHANGADHI: OCT. 19 – Twenty-three people, including 18 members of the same family, have gone missing in a landslide in Thalara Rural Municipality-4 of Bajhang district.

Locals have informed that they went missing due to a landslide that came from above the village on Tuesday morning.

According to the locals, 18 people from the same house of Gagane Sarki and 5 people from the same house of Nare Parki have gone missing.

Gagane is in India for employment. According to the locals, only his son Kale is safe and others have gone missing. The landslide has buried seven houses. Others in the village have been displaced. The displaced are staying at Tribhuvan Secondary School, Mahendradhar.

The landslide has affected the lower Dikhla and the upper Dikhla. More than 100 families have been displaced as the village is at risk of landslides. Parakatne teacher Madan Bahadur Saud informed.

No contact could be made for further details as communication service was disrupted in the hilly districts of the far west. Chief of the District Police Office, Bajhang, DSP Rupak Khadka said that there was a problem in the rescue operation as the road was blocked due to the floods and no timely information was received. He said that they could not reach there as the incident site was far away.
