Tika and Jamra continue to be offered as offerings of Nawa Durga
KATHMANDU: OCT. 16 – On the day of Ashwin Shukla Ekadashi, the process of receiving offerings of Nawa Durga from the devotees continues. Starting from the day of Vijayadashami, the process of offering Tika and Jamra as offerings of Nawa Durga will continue till the full sacrifice is completed on the day of Kojagrat Purnima.
Nepalis celebrate the Dashain festival grandly for 15 days from Ashwin Shukla Pratipada to Ashwin Shukla Purnima. On the day of Ashwin Shukla Pratipada, the Vedic method begins with the anointing of the pitcher set up in the tenth house or worship room, followed by the immersion of the Goddess in the morning on the day of Vijayadashami.
Similarly, today Ashwin Shukla Ekadashi is being celebrated as Papankusha Ekadashi. There is a religious belief that fasting on today’s Ekadashi will curb the sins committed in the past.
