National, international collaboration stressed to promote education sector
KATHMANDU: OCT. 11 – Stakeholders have stressed national and international citizen networks working in the education sector should advocate and collaborate for promoting quality public education and increasing investment in the education sector.
In a message delivered virtually on the occasion of the 12th annual general assembly of the National Campaign for Education (NCE), Nepal, President of the Global Campaign for Education, Refat Sabbah said that COVID-19 would affect the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals while widening a gap between the rich and poor as the infection has severely affected health, economy and social sector.
Developing countries like Nepal could get poorer due to the virus and there could be a decrease in investment in public education and health, he said.
NCE, Nepal represents in the international executive committee, GCE.
Likewise, Secretary-General of the Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education, Maria Helen Dabu pledged to stand by NCE Nepal for ensuring people’s right to education and lifetime learning.
Pointing out the need for a civil campaign for ensuring the right of marginalized communities to education and learning amid COVID-19 and the implementation of the SDG 4, she praised Nepal for its activeness in carrying out these works.
Earlier on October 9, Minister for Finance Janardan Sharma inaugurated the general assembly of the NCE Nepal. Four hundred sixteen educational institutions across the country have been associated with the NCE Nepal.
