KATHMANDU: OCT. 11 – A sit-in is underway at Kathmandu’s Maiti Ghar for justice for Sunni Dhobi and Nirmala Kurmi, who were killed in domestic violence in Banke. The family members of 15 victims, who arrived in Kathmandu after a 20-day journey from Nepalgunj, have staged a sit-in at the family home demanding justice for the victims.
They allege that the local police administration delayed the registration of the case and did not arrest the culprit even though Nankunni and Nirmala were killed with the connivance of their families. The victim’s family had walked from Nepalgunj on Sept. 17 demanding action against the culprit.
The victim’s family has started a sit-in at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu demanding departmental action against SP Shyam Krishna Adhikari and DSP Madhusudan Neupane of the District Police Office Banke for not taking action against the culprit. Even after five days of their arrival in Kathmandu, their demands could not be heard, said a local, Aapda Dhobi.
Family members of the victim had walked to Kathmandu on Sept. 17 saying that justice had not been served in Banke after the murder of Kurmi and Dhobi.
