Curfew issued in Butwal after dispute between police and locals escalated
KATHMANDU: OCT. 10 – A curfew has been imposed after clashes broke out between locals and police who went to encroach on the land of Motipur Industrial Area in Rupandehi. The District Administration Office, Rupandehi has issued curfew with effect from 4 pm as the dispute is escalating.
Police also opened fire during the clash. Two persons have been seriously injured in a police firing. The clash took place when the police were demolishing temporary tents built by squatters in the industrial area.
Chief District Officer of Rupandehi Rishi Ram Tiwari said that tear gas and aerial fire had to be fired after stones were hurled at the police.
A curfew order has been issued in the area from Butwal 17 Sivanagar in the east to Ward No. 18 Saunrahiya Bridge, in the west Hariharpur’s cultivable land, in the north Shivnagar Raniganj Basti and in the area of Motipur Industrial Corridor of Ward No. 18 in the south.
