Brahmacharini Devi is being worshiped on the second day of Dashain

KATHMANDU: OCT. 8 – The second day of Navratri (Dashain), is being celebrated today with the worship of Brahmacharini, the second form of Navadurga Bhawani. Brahma means penance and Charini means conduct. Brahmacharini is considered a goddess who practices penance.

The Brahmacharini Devi has a chanting garland in her right hand and a Kamandalu in her left hand. It is believed in Hindu scriptures that the ascetic attains perfection and victory everywhere by the grace of Mother Brahmacharini Devi.

It is also customary to worship unmarried virgins on this day. It is customary to invite virgins to the house and eat only after worshiping and feeding them. The second day of the Dashain is being celebrated in a joyous atmosphere.
