Is it a sign that cholera has spread in Krishnanagar of Kapilvastu?
KAPILVASTU: OCT. 7 – Health officials have suspected that cholera may have spread in three wards of Krishnanagar municipality in the Kapilvastu district.
The head of the laboratory of Lumbini Regional Hospital, Dr. Prabhakar Chaudhary told the BBC that one of the samples tested was being sent to the National Public Health Laboratory, Teku, on suspicion of cholera.
“Since serotyping has to be done for confirmation and we don’t have the conditions, we are going to send it to the National Public Health Laboratory,” he said. According to him, a total of five samples received from the district were tested there. Hemraj Pandey, head of Kapilvastu at the health office, told the BBC that two people had died so far.
According to him, the outbreak of diarrhea had started in 7, 8 and 9 of Krishnanagar Municipality from Monday night. He said that out of 370 patients admitted to Shivraj Hospital in the district, 110 are still undergoing treatment. “32 people have been referred, the rest have been discharged and gone home,” he said.
How did the outbreak spread?
According to Pandey, the head of the health office was sent to check the defecation as well as the water.
“According to the verbal information we have just received from the lab, coliforms have been confirmed in the water,” he said. “It simply came to our notice then.
The main source of drinking water in the affected wards is water distributed by the Nepal Water Supply Corporation, said Pandey.
“The Nepal Water Supply Corporation has been supplying boring water in overhead tanks,” he said. According to Pandey, miking has been started after the outbreak of diarrhea.
