UML’s new logo in controversy: Maoists oppose claims, UML says ‘claims are not enough’
KATHMANDU: OCT. 7 – The new logo passed by the CPN (UML)’s first general convention is in dispute. The general convention held on Oct. 3 had passed the logo with a circular hammer and sickle in the sun.
However, Maoist leader Dev Gurung said that the changed logo was similar to the election symbol of the CPN (Maoist Center). Leader Gurung said that they are discussing this. “Normally, you can’t put another party’s election symbol,” Gurung told Makalu Khabar. “The election law says the same thing.” The Maoist center can oppose the claim. ‘
Gurung said that the Maoist center would also discuss the issue with legal experts. “It simply came to our notice then. We are doing legal advice. Then comes the issue of protesting the claim. That can be done. ‘
UML, on the other hand, has said that its changed logo does not match the Maoist election symbol. Leader Subash Chandra Nemwang told Makalu Khabar, “The election symbol of the Maoist center is not a hammer and sickle inside the circle.”
After this, Nemwang says that the demands of the Maoist center will not be met. UML Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Prasad Poudel also repeated the same. He said, “The first thing is that the hammer and sickle is not their election symbol.” Although the hammer is a hammer, the hammer inside the circle is not a hammer. Second, the hammer and sickle is the common flag of all communist parties. How do they claim? ‘
UML had been using a small hammer and sickle inside the square and using the logo written in English on the inside of the square before the Legislative Assembly. However, the General Convention has passed a new logo. This is the UML logo in dispute.
Such a logo was used by uniting the UML and the UCPN (M) and merging the election symbols of both parties.
