Spain in the final, breaking Italy’s journey of 37 games
KATHMANDU: OCT. 7 – Italy, who have made an unbeaten run in 37 world records, have lost to Spain. Euro champions Italy have lost in the UEFA Nations League in a sensational match at the San Sario ground. With the victory, Spain has decided to travel to the final.
Italy, limited to 10 players, lost 2-1 on Wednesday night. Ferran Torres scored both goals in Spain’s victory. Lorenzo Pellegrini of the home team scored a goal in the last minute.
In the 42nd minute, Italy was reduced to 10 players. Italy came under natural pressure after Leonardo Bonucci was shown a double yellow card. However, before that, Spain took the lead in the 17th minute through a goal by Ferran Torres.
Torres doubled Spain’s lead in the second minute of the first half’s injury time, scoring the second goal for both the individual and the team. Lorenzo Pellegrini scored in the 83rd minute to make it 2-1.
Italy have been unbeaten in 37 consecutive games since losing 1-0 to Portugal in the League of Nations in September 2018. Italy lost to Spain in the 38th match. Italy have 28 wins and 9 draws in their unbeaten run. During this period, Italy has scored 93 goals and conceded 12 goals.
Similarly, Spain managed to avenge the loss in the penalty shootout in the Euro Cup semi-final in July last year. Italy entered the final 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time.
Italy beat England 3-2 on penalties in a 1-1 draw in the final and extra time. Spain will now compete for the title with the winner between Belgium and France on October 10. The second semi-final between Belgium and France is taking place today.
