Federal MPs did not get Dashain allowances
KATHMANDU: OCT. 5 – This year, the members of the federal parliament will not get the Dashain allowance. According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, the Dashain allowance has not been paid as the salary/allowance for the month of Sept/Oct was deposited in the account of the parliamentarians on Tuesday.
According to the secretariat, the Dashain allowance was not collected as there was a dispute last year when the tithe allowance was given and the Council of Ministers has not decided whether to give the tithe allowance to the parliamentarians this year.
According to Basanta Sigdel, Chief Accounts Officer of the Parliament Secretariat, the decision was taken as the Parliament Secretariat did not have the money to pay the Dashain allowance to the MPs.
According to the Parliament Secretariat, Rs. 298.46 million has been deposited in the MP’s account on Tuesday. Similarly, Rs. 143.74 million has been deposited to the personal secretary of the parliamentarian.
Federal MPs receive Rs 66,070 a month in addition to meeting allowances and transportation expenses. The 275-member House of Representatives currently has 271 MPs, while the National Assembly has 59 MPs.
