Four former chief justices acquitted in contempt case
KATHMANDU: OCT. 1 – The Supreme Court has acquitted four former chief justices in a contempt case.
Former Chief Justices Min Bahadur Rayamajhi, Anup Raj Sharma, Kalyan Shrestha and Sushila Karki had filed separate writ petitions in a separate statement saying that it was wrong for the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to dissolve the House.
A bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana and Sapana Pradhan Malla on Friday cleared the four. The former chief justices had issued a statement saying that the dissolution of the parliament was wrong and that the Supreme Court should not preside over it.
The Supreme Court had sought answers from all four. Responding to that, he said that filing a contempt case while publicizing the dissent was an attempt to stifle freedom of expression.
