SAFF Championship: Nepal playing against Maldives today
KATHMANDU: OCT. 1 – The SAFF championship is starting in the Maldives from today. In the inaugural match, Nepal will play against the Maldives.
In today’s first match against the Maldives, Nepal will start at 9:45 pm Nepali time. Nepali team captain Kiran Chemjong has said that they will play to win the championship.
Speaking at the press conference, Captain Kiran said that they will get the result by fighting against the home team on the field. He said the Maldives would have the support of domestic supporters but that would not affect their game. Nepal and Maldives have met 16 times so far and the Maldives has won 8 games while Nepal has won 4 games. Similarly, 4 games have been drawn.
Similarly, Maldives is 10 places ahead of Nepal in FIFA rankings. The Maldives is ranked 158th while Nepal is ranked 168th. Nepal’s second match in the SAFF Championship will be played against Sri Lanka on Monday at 9:45 am. The third match will be against India on October 10 at 9:45 pm and the last match of the league will be against Bangladesh on October 13 at 4:45 pm.
Nepal has not been able to play in the final of the SAFF Championship so far. Nepal had lost 3-0 to the Maldives in the semi-final in the last edition.
