Senior citizens are mature personalities in experience and behaviour: PM Deuba
KATHMANDU: OCT. 1 – Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the senior citizen is a mature personality in experience and behaviour. He expressed his best wishes to all the senior citizens on the occasion of the 31st International Senior Citizens’ Day.
He mentioned that the government is moving towards creating an environment to transfer the knowledge, skills and experience gained in the role of national service for a long time for the socio-economic transformation and development of the country and pass it on to the new generation.
The United Nations has set a slogan for the day this year, “Equality in the use of electronic technology for all age groups.” In this situation, Prime Minister Deuba has urged the bodies working in the field of protection and promotion of the rights and interests of the senior citizens to focus on making the senior citizens technology-friendly while conducting the program.
Emphasizing the importance of respect and security of senior citizens, Prime Minister Deuba has expressed commitment to provide citizen health insurance, social security allowance, construction of senior citizen health ashrams in all the seven states, operation of senior citizen wards in every hospital and upgrading of facilities and equipment in other health institutions. He mentioned that all the senior citizens will be provided insurance with free premium, seat reservation and fare discount for the senior citizens will be implemented in the transport service.
Urging all the senior citizens to stay healthy by adhering to the health safety standards in the current global epidemic of COVID-19, Prime Minister Deuba urged all the concerned bodies to show high respect by providing priority services to the senior citizens.
On the occasion of the day, he expressed his best wishes to all Nepali citizens to promote the culture of respect, hospitality, esteem and appreciation of their elders which has been maintained since time immemorial in accordance with social and cultural traditions.
