State 2: Sonal elected leader of LOSAPA parliamentary party
JANAKPURDHAM: SEPT. 28 – Jitendra Sonal has been elected as the leader of the parliamentary party of the Democratic Socialist Party (LOSAPA). The election was held at Hotel City Star in Janakpur on Monday night due to disagreement.
In the election, Sonal became the party leader by getting 9 votes out of 16 MPs. Upendra Mahato had contested the election with Sonal. He got only 6 votes. One vote is understood to be invalid. Mahato is the nephew of senior LOSAPA leader Rajendra Mahato.
Earlier, even though Surita Saha was in the fray, she did not field a candidate in the election as the party leader was not selected by consensus. Sonal of the Mahanta Thakur group had earlier been the leader of two parliamentary parties in the former Rastriya Janata Party Nepal.
Earlier, he had held the ministry of physical infrastructure in the state government. A few months ago, Chief Minister Lal Babu Raut dismissed Mahanta Thakur from the ministry, saying he belonged to the group.
