Municipality-level convention of NC begins today
KATHMANDU: SEPT. 25 – The village-municipal convention of the ruling Nepali Congress is starting from today under the 14th general convention of the party. The municipal-level convention is taking place in the districts where the ward convention has been held as per the pre-determined date.
The Nepali Congress has so far held ward conventions in 64 of the 77 districts. According to the party’s Central Election Committee, village-municipal conventions have started from today in most of the districts where the final results were obtained from the ward conventions. As the final vote result of the ward convention in the federal capital Kathmandu has not been received, the municipal convention here has been fixed for October 2. The ward convention of Kathmandu had started on September 21.
It may be noted that ward-level conventions have not started in the remaining 13 districts for failure to resolve the active membership dispute. Coordinator of the election committee, Mahadev Prasad Yadav, informed that the convention process could not be started as the active membership details in eight districts of Province No. 2 and Surkhet, Dolpa, Rasuwa, Rupandehi and Kailali are yet to be reiceved.
A meeting of Nepali Congress (NC) office-bearers and former office-bearers held on Friday had decided to resolve the remaining disputes of active membership as soon as possible and hold municipal-level conventions in all districts before Dashain festival begins. In the Himalayan district, the Congress has decided to hold all the district conventions as per the pre-determined schedule due to the effect of the weather.
