A 5 kg lump of flesh was surgically removed from the back
BIRATNAGAR: SEPT. 23 – 5 kg lump of flesh has been removed from the back of a patient by surgery at Nobel Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar. Kul Bahadur Tamang, 56, of Damak Municipality-3, Aamchowk, Jhapa has undergone surgery to remove a lump of flesh from his back.
Dr Amit Bhattarai, a surgeon at Nobel Hospital, said that a 5 kg lump of fat mixed with flesh grown on the back was surgically removed. Below his neck is a piece of flesh growing on the back of his head. He had been carrying a 5 kg lump of meat on his back for many years. Dr Bhattarai said, “We have surgically removed the flesh. Now his health condition is fine. We are preparing to discharge him from the hospital.”
A team of doctors led by Dr Bhattarai has successfully operated and removed the lump of flesh. The patient was made semi-conscious and operated on. Nobel’s anesthesiologist Prof. Dr CR Das assisted in the operation. About 10 years ago, a small lump of flesh grew on the back of Tamang’s neck. It has gradually grown.
Unusual lumps of flesh grew on his back, making it difficult for Tamang to walk and sleep. He had been carrying a 5 kg lump of flesh for years. Now, he has recovered after the surgical removal of flesh from his back. “In the beginning, it came out like a small rashes, but later it got bigger and bigger. It was becoming very difficult to carry a heavy load all the time,” said Tamang.’
Earlier, a 6 kg tumour was removed from the uterus of a woman from Ilam in Nobel. Due to the state-of-the-art equipment and the management of skilled physicians, complex and rare surgeries have been performed successfully at Nobel.
