League Cup: City’s rave, Liverpool’s easy win

KATHMANDU: SEPT. 22 – Two strong English clubs, Manchester City and Liverpool have made it to the last 16 with easy wins in the League Cup (Carabao Cup) on Tuesday. Liverpool beat Norwich City 3-0 in a thrilling 6-1 win over Wycombe.

Riyad Mahrez scored twice to give Manchester City a stunning victory over Wycombe. City made it to the last 16 by scoring half a dozen goals against Wycombe.

However, Wycombe took the lead in the 22nd minute through Hanlan’s goal. Seven minutes later, Kevin De Bruyne scored to put City back in the game. Mahrez took the lead in the first half and scored in the 43rd minute. Phil Foden scored in the injury time of the first half to give City a 3-1 lead.

City continued to score a goal in the second half. Ferran Torres made it 4-1 in the 78th minute. In the 81st minute, Mahrez extended the lead of City by scoring again. With two minutes left in the game, Palmer’s goal gave City half a dozen goals.

Another English club Liverpool also won impressively. Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino were important for Liverpool. Making a place in the last 16, Liverpool took the lead in the fourth minute through a goal by Minamino.

In the 42nd minute, Norwich could not take advantage of the opportunity to return to the game. Norwich could not return to the game after Christos Tzolis missed a penalty. Origi doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 50th minute. With 10 minutes left in the game, Minamino secured Liverpool’s last 16 trips with a personal second goal.

In other League Cup matches on Tuesday, Everton beat Queens Rangers Park 8-7 in a tiebreaker to advance to the quarterfinals, while Leeds United edged out Fulham 6-5 in a penalty shootout.
