96 percent of reconstruction of Kasthamandap completed
KATHMANDU: SEPT. 18 – Reconstruction of the historic Kasthamandap is expected to be completed before Dashain festival. At present, 96 percent of the work has been completed.
“If there are no obstacles the work will be completed before the Dashain festival begins i.e. a month from now,” said Kasthamandap Reconstruction Committee Chair Rajesh Shakya.
The Kasthamandap was completely damaged by the 2015 earthquake. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has provided financial assistance for the reconstruction of this heritage built in the 7th century. The KMC has so far provided Rs. 115 million for the re-construction.
The original Gajur was installed in the reconstructed historical heritage. A total of 17,058 cu ft of timber is required for the reconstruction of the heritage. Although some of the old wood was used, new timber was received from the Timber Corporation of Nepal, Shakya said.
