BIRATNAGAR: SEPT. 18 – Sher Bahadur Bhandari has been elected as the president of the Urlabari Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Morang. Bhandari of the progressive group defeated Tarman Shereng Limbu of the Democratic Alliance in the counting held on Friday.

Bhandari, a resident of Urlabari-4, is a CPN-UML supporter. The CPN-UML, the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, the Maoist Center and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party formed a progressive group and contested the election, while the Nepali Congress, the Federal Socialist Party and the Limbuwan formed a democratic alliance. Out of 1,704 voters, 1,452 votes were cast.

Yamlal Rasaili (Maoist Center) as Senior Vice President of Udyog Federation of Nepalese Chambers,
Jung Bahadur Karki (RPP) Vice President of Industry, Nirmala Chauhan (NC) as Vice President of Commerce, Hemraj Gurung (NC) was elected as the General Secretary while Dilli Khatiwada (UML) was elected as the Industry Secretary and Niraula (NC) was elected as the Commerce Secretary.

Treasurer Rajan Dahal (Maoist Center) has been elected. Among the members, Gopal Bhandari, who emerged from Swatantra, won with a huge margin, while Nitam Chauhan (UML), Nutan Rai (UML), Dasharath Yadav (NC) and Raj Kumar Shrestha (NC) emerged victoriously. Ganesh Khatri (NC) won the post of Accounts Committee Coordinator. Among the members of the Accounts Committee are Radhika Kafle (Maoist Center) and Roshan Ghimire (NC).
