KATHMANDU: SEPT. 17 – The Democratic Socialist Party is going to celebrate Constitution Day as a black day. The constitution was promulgated by the Constituent Assembly on Ashoj 3 2072 BS (20 Sept. 2015). However, the Madhesi parties have been celebrating the promulgation of the new constitution without addressing the demands of Madhes.

The then Madhesi parties did not participate in the promulgation of the constitution. The constitution was promulgated by an overwhelming majority without their participation. However, denying this, Madhesi parties have been celebrating Constitution Day as a black day.

Leader Ekwal Mia said that the People’s Socialist Party, which was formed LOSAPA separately from the Nepal party, would celebrate Constitution Day Ashoj 3 (Sept. 20) as a black day this year as well. “It simply came to our notice then. If the constitution is amended by addressing our demands and issues, we can celebrate it as a celebration, ‘he said.

Party Chairman Mahanta Thakur has issued an internal circular asking the district coordinators to hold protests, corner meetings, rallies, blackouts and other protest programs on the day of Constitution Day.
