KATHMANDU: SEPT. 16 – In the European Champions League, the star-studded PSG drew 1-1 with Belgian club, Brugge. Despite fielding a star player in their first game under Group A, PSG failed to perform a miracle.
In another match of the same group, English club Manchester City performed brilliantly. Jack Grealish, who joined City this season, scored a beautiful goal to make his Champions League debut. The city recorded an impressive 6-3 victory over RB Leipzig.
Nine goals were scored by both sides in the rain at the Etihad Stadium. City, playing in the Champions League for the first time since losing to Chelsea in the final last season, took the lead in the 16th minute. 18 minutes later, Mukiele scored a suicide goal to double City’s lead. But in an attempt to make a comeback in the first half, Nkunku returned a goal for Leipzig in the 42nd minute.
Riyad Mahrez scored from the penalty spot during the injury time of the first half to give City a two-goal lead again. Nkunku scored the second goal for Leipzig in the 51st minute. Grealish scored in the 56th minute through a pass from Ruben Dias to give City a 4-2 lead.
Nkunku completed the hat trick by scoring his third individual goal in the 73rd minute. But two minutes later, Joao Cancelo and Gabriel Jesus scored for City in the 85th minute to seal the wide victory for the home side. With 11 minutes left, Angelino left the field with two yellow cards and a red card, leaving Leipzig limited to 10 players.
The unexpected draw of PSG
In the 15th minute of the game, Ander Herrera scored a goal to give the team the lead but PSG failed to maintain the same rhythm. Brugge broke PSG’s lead in the 27th minute. Vanaken scored the equalizer. After that, PSG was forced to share the points as no more goals could be scored from both teams.
Most of the time, despite the control of the game, the lack of coordination was evident in the star players. Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe spent the entire season on the field. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to perform magic on the field. It was clear that there was no team coordination in PSG, which is aiming to win the Champions League.
