The Mass Media Bill was tabled in the state assembly
POKHARA: SEPT. 14 – A mass media bill has been tabled in the Gandaki State Assembly to regulate journalists and the media. Minister for Law, Communications and State Assembly Bindukumar Thapa tabled the bill.
The bill, which was earlier registered by the government in the Parliament Secretariat, has been tabled in the Parliament after six months.
The proposed bill imposes a fine of up to Rs 10,000 and one-year imprisonment for publishing and broadcasting news illegally. It is mentioned that programs cannot be produced and distributed without permission.
Provision has been made for the secretary-level staff of the government to take action against those who act against the rules. Arrangements have been made for a press registrar to collect a fine of Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 and work related to mass media.
