Demand for public holiday on the day of Vishwakarma
KATHMANDU: SEPT. 14 – The Unified National Vishwakarma Society has demanded the government grant a public holiday on the day of Vishwakarma Puja. The society has handed over a memorandum to Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand demanding a public holiday on the day of worship in all the Vishwakarma and also in the cultural festivals of the artisan communities.
Chairman of the society Gopal Prasad Bishwakarma said that he had handed over a memorandum to the Home Minister saying that the entire community would be honoured when he gave leave on the day of worship at Vishwakarma. In response, the Minister of Mines said that he was positive and would take it forward in the necessary process. In Nepal, the worship of Vishwakarma is celebrated as a festival on September 17.
Similarly, society has also put forward various five-point demands on the occasion. The society should include in the annual plan the programs for the preservation and promotion of the skills, professions, occupations, arts of the caste in Vishwakarma at every local level. Demanded that the state should bring special programs to modernize and professionalize the profession of Vishwakarma, list the symbol of heroism as the inventor of Nepali khukuri in Vishwakarma and ensure proportional inclusion of this community in the structures of state political parties.
