PIA becomes first foreign commercial flight to land in Kabul since Taliban takeover

KABUL: SEPT. 13 – A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane carrying passengers landed at Kabul airport on Monday. This is the first international commercial flight to Kabul airport since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan on August 15.

A passenger on a flight from Islamabad told AFP that there were about 10 passengers on board, more than the crew.

Pakistan Airlines, PIA, said on Sunday that all preparations for the flight had been completed and that the first flight would depart on Monday.

Pakistan Airlines issued a statement on Sunday. The airline had earlier said it would resume regular flights from Monday. The Pakistani airline also suspended all flights after the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan.

Since then, many foreign airlines have stopped flying. Airlines other than PIA have not started flights.
