State 1: CPN (Maoist) party leader Rai, not supporting the government
KATHMANDU: SEPT. 13 – Rajendra Rai has been elected as the leader of the parliamentary party of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) State 1. A meeting of the parliamentary parties held on Monday (today) selected Rai as the leader of the parliamentary party. MP Upendra Ghimire said, “He (Rai) has been selected as the leader of the parliamentary party.”
A similar meeting has also clarified that it does not support the UML-led government. Leader Ghimire said that it was decided to inform the secretariat of the state assembly today. Ten lawmakers in the state had identified themselves in favour of the Unified Socialist Party, which was also recognized by the Election Commission on Sunday.
UML has lost its majority in the state assembly after identifying Rajendra Rai, Rajan Rai, Upendra Ghimire, Sabitra Regmi, Khinu Langwa Limbu, Ganesh Kangmang, Krishna Kumari Rai, Padam Kumari Gurung, Sunita Chaudhary and Sarita Thapa. Acharya, who has been appointed as the chief minister as the leader of the majority party, has now reached the minority vote.
Of the 92 members present in the state assembly, 41 are from the CPN-UML, 21 from the Nepali Congress, 15 from the CPN-Maoist Center, 10 from the CPN-U, 10 from the People’s Socialist Party, one from the Federal Democratic National Forum and one from Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
