KATHMANDU: SEPT. 9 – European champions Italy hold the record for most unbeaten games in international football. After beating Lithuania 5-0 in the World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday, Italy has set a new record by extending its unbeaten run to 37 games.

The Italy team unilaterally dominated the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifier against Lithuania on Wednesday night. European champions Italy have been unbeaten for the past three years. The last time Italy lost to Portugal was in the League of Nations on September 10, 2018. Italy have won 28 and drawn nine since then.

Moise Kean scored twice in the 11th and 29th minutes to give Roberto Mancini’s side a record victory over Italy on Wednesday night. Similarly, Lithuania’s Utkus scored an own goal in the 14th minute while Giacomo Raspadori scored in the 24th minute to give the team a 4-0 lead in the first half. Giovanni Di Lorenzo scored in the 54th minute of the second half to give Italy their first victory since the Euro Cup.

Earlier, the record was set in 36 games, but Brazil denied it. Brazil says they are unbeaten in 36 games between 1993 and 1996. But then Brazil played a game against Romania’s Team B.
