Free treatment of Dalit child by Ram Janaki Hospital
JANAKPURDHAM: SEPT. 7 – A private hospital in Janakpur has provided free treatment to a Dalit child in Mahottari after the family members expressed inability to pay for the treatment.
The Ram Janki Hospital in Janakpur has deducted Rs 250,000 spent on the treatment of a Dalit child from Mahottari Matihani.
Amrita Devi Sada of Mazhaura in Matihani Municipality of Mahottari gave birth to a baby at the State Hospital in Janakpurdham on August 18. But after seeing the child’s respiratory problems, the provincial hospital suggested treatment elsewhere. After that, Amrita reached Ram Janaki’s hospital with her baby at midnight on August 19. The hospital admitted the child and started treatment immediately.
The pediatrician of the hospital, Dr. Hemant Sharma says, ‘The child was having difficulty breathing, there was no guarantee that he would survive. However, we started the treatment at our own risk. We finally managed to save the baby. ‘
According to the hospital, the baby had to be kept in NICU for 19 days, ventilator for 7 days and C-Pap for 3 days. About Rs 250,000 had been spent on the child’s treatment six days ago. But after the hospital administration demanded money, the family members left the child and fled. They returned to pick up the baby after the hospital administration offered free treatment.
“We went home to pay for the treatment due to poverty,” said Amrita Devi Sada, the child’s aunt. When we called from the hospital, we were told that we could not pay the money, and the doctor said that it would not cost money, so I came to get the baby. ‘
Amrita’s husband OP Sada is always unemployed. He supports his family by working in the village. He doesn’t even have his own land. “There is not enough food, how can you pay that much to the hospital,” said Amrita. I thank the hospital and the doctor. ‘
