Heavy rain in Kathmandu: 385 houses inundated, 232 people rescued
KATHMANDU: SEPT. 6 – The floods in the rivers of Kathmandu Valley due to incessant rains since last night have damaged the surrounding settlements. Dozens of squatter settlements along the river have been inundated.
The accommodation of workers living in temporary tents has been affected. Mulpani, Manohara, Thapathali, Balkhu and other areas of Kathmandu have been inundated while the water level in Dhobikhola has risen and Maitidevi and Anamnagar areas have been inundated. The floods in Manohara of Bhaktapur have inundated the surrounding squatter settlements.
Similarly, the Sanepa, Kalopul area of Lalitpur has been inundated, according to police. According to SP Sushil Singh Rathore of the Metropolitan Police Office, 385 houses have been inundated due to the floods in various rivers in the Kathmandu Valley. “It simply came to our notice then. One and a half hundred calls came to us asking for help. Police have been on duty since last night, ‘said SP Rathore.’ So far, 232 people have been rescued. So far it has not been so unpleasant. ‘
According to police, the flood has washed away five or six small vehicles parked in Balkhu. Balkhu’s fruit and vegetable market has also been inundated.
