Kiran Chemjong has equaled the record of Biraj Maharjan
KATHMANDU: SEPT. 2 – Friendly football match between Nepal and India has started. The match started at 5:30 pm at Dasharath Stadium.
Captain and goalkeeper of the Nepali national football team Kiran Chemjong has equalled the record of Biraj Maharjan who has won the most caps from the national team.
Kiran entered the field for a friendly match against India and equalled the record. Biraj became the highest playing player in Nepal by winning 73 caps in the Three Nations Cup held in Nepal last April.
Biraj entered the field substituting Tridev Gurung in the last minute of the final match against Bangladesh. He then announced his retirement from the national team.
Kiran is the first choice goalkeeper in the national team since 13 years. He made his AFC Challenge Cup debut against Macau in 2008, replacing goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa. Since then, he has been a regular member of the national team.
He has reached the stage of breaking the record in the 13-year long journey of the national team. He is not officially the highest cap-winning player in another friendly against India.
He said that he was very happy to achieve this. Recalling the past, he said, “I didn’t think I would get here when I got injured in my debut game, but I have got here due to continuous hard work.” It is a great thing to be able to play for the country. I will try to do better in the days to come. ‘
