State 1: 10 MPs identified, the State Government in the minority
BIRATNAGAR: SEPT. 1 – Ten MPs from State 1 have chosen the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist). After this, they have even been identified at the state election office. According to the system of choosing a party, they have left the UML and opted for a unified socialist party. The leaders, who reached the State office of the Election Commission in Biratnagar at 12 noon, signed in favor of the Unified Socialists.
Among those identified as Rajendra Rai of Bhojpur, Sunita Kumari Chaudhary of Udayapur, Rajan Rai of Khotang, Sabitri Kumari Regmi of Morang, Ganesh Kambang of Panchthar and Khinu Langwa Limbul of Ilam are among those who have been identified. They came to the commission’s office in two vehicles and said that their arrival was delayed due to loss of identity cards of Upendra Kumar Ghimire and Krishna Kumari Rai.
MPs Ghimire and Rai, who arrived at the commission’s office late, identified themselves at around 1.30 pm.
Government in the minority
The government of Bhim Acharya, who was appointed as the Chief Minister on August 26 with the identities of 10 people, is in the minority. Out of 51 UML MPs, 10 have been reduced to 41 from the Unified Socialists. Although the Maoists have taken action against one out of 93 MPs in State Assembly No. 1, there are 52 MPs.
47 MPs are needed to reach a majority. MP Rajendra Rai said that the UML, which has 41 MPs, is not in a position to get a majority. Now the way is open for the coalition to form the state government.
While the Congress has 21 MPs, the UCPN (Maoist) has 15 MPs and the CPN-S has 10 MPs. As a result, the state government is in the minority.
As one of the 41 members of the CPN-UML has a criminal case and the speaker is not open, the CPN-UML will be limited to 39 MPs.
