KATHMANDU: AUGUST 31 – Garbage piled up in Kathmandu Valley will be picked up from tomorrow (Wednesday). A garbage piled up in the Valley Chowks and roads will be picked up from 6 am on Wednesday.
A meeting of Kathmandu Chief District Officer, Director General of Roads Department, Senior Superintendent of Police and others chaired by Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya has decided to pick up garbage from Wednesday morning.
Garbage piles have been piled up everywhere in the city after garbage was filled in Sisdol of Kakani, Nuwakot, which has been managing garbage for about 16 years.
The Kathmandu Valley, which normally emits 1,045 metric tons of garbage, emits up to 1,200 metric tons during the rainy season.
Earlier, when the condition of the road was good, more than 150 vehicles used to take garbage daily.
As the condition of the road is bad now, it has been difficult for 50 vehicles to go for picking up the garbages, said the Kathmandu Metropolitan Corporation.
