Radha Krishna Rath Yatra affected, being circulated in the market from Khat
BIRATNAGAR: AUGUST 31 – The Radha Krishna Rath Yatra to start in Biratnagar, will not start this year due to coronavirus. The Rath Yatra which starts from the next day of Shrikrishna Janmashtami is deserted this year.
There is no activity in the vicinity of the Radha Krishna Temple in Biratnagar Metropolitan City Ward No. 1, Tinpaini, except for beggars and general traders. Baburaja Ojha, the coordinator of the Radha Krishna Rath Yatra Main Ceremony Committee, said that there is a Rath Yatra every year, this year it is a Khat Yatra and is being put in a car and taken around the city.
Chairman of the Radha Krishna Rath Yatra Ceremony Committee Baburaja Ojha said that the Rath Yatra could not be held this year due to the coronavirus epidemic. He said that Radha Krishna’s Rath will be kept in the car for health and safety reasons. This year’s Radha Krishna Rath Yatra is the 90th edition.

According to Ojha, the procession will start from the Radha Krishna Temple water tank in Tinpaini and will go through Golchha, Jaljala, Traffic Road, Roadcess, Mahendra Chowk, Bhrikuti Chowk, Bargachhi, Kanchanbari, Rajbanshi and Pushpalal Chowk. Rath will be taken out from the premises of Radha Krishna Temple after special worship.
According to the organizers, no one will be able to worship and visit from a distance as they will not stop anywhere in the middle of the procession. This journey started from Khat in 1988 and has been continuing since 2025 as a Rath Yatra. The state government has decided to grant public leave in Morang, Sunsari and Jhapa districts on Tuesday.
The organizers claim that the Radha Krishna Rath Yatra in Biratnagar is being considered as the second largest Rath Yatra in South Asia. During the Rath Yatra, there is a history of millions of people flocking to Biratnagar to watch and pay homage to the Rath Yatra.
