Darchula floods / landslides: Death toll rises to three, two missing
DARCHULA: AUGUST 30 – The number of deaths due to floods / landslides in Darchula has reached three. Three people have been killed and two others have gone missing due to floods / landslides in different parts of the district.
According to the District Police Office, Darchula, the floods and landslides on Sunday night caused physical and human damage in different areas of Duhun and Mahakali Municipalities. Narasingh Mahar and his wife Kausha Mahar have died in a landslide in Duhun Rural Municipality-1. District Police Chief DSP Manohar Prasad Bhatta said that they were killed when a landslide fell on them while they were sleeping at night.
Similarly, Manuwa Dadal also died in the flood in Ward No. 5 Dulla of the same Village Municipality. The flood in the local Kalagad river has washed away Dadal and his house. The floods and landslides have damaged houses, land, pools, hydropower, water supply and livestock. According to locals, five shops, two small hydropower projects, four suspension bridges and a concrete bridge have been washed away.
Similarly, two persons have gone missing due to floods in Ward No. 3 Nijangad. Locals Sher Singh Karki and Harak Singh Karki have gone missing due to the flood in the Nijangad River. The Nijangad River has washed away the Darchula-Tinker road motorable bridge and two suspension bridges. Half of the houses and shops in the area have been flooded.
Nijangad has detonated Purna Bahadur Bom, Narendra Bahadur Bom, Deepak Bom, Ran Bahadur Bom, Dhirendra Bom and Sher Bahadur Bom in Srivagad of Duhun-3. Similarly, hotels and shops of Dev Bahadur Bom, Amar Bahadur Bom, Sundar Bahadur Bom and Jeet Bahadur Bom have been washed away in Srivagad of Mahakali Municipality-1.
Similarly, half of the range post building of the Api-Nampa Conservation Area Office near the river has been flooded. Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army, Red Cross and locals have reached the spot.
Drinking water has been in short supply in the Srivagad area after the Nijangad River overflowed its water source and pipes. Drinking water was brought to Mahakali Municipality 1, Srivagad and Duhun Village Municipality 3 Srivagad from the Wanala Drinking Water Project. There are 40 families living in Srivagad of Mahakali Municipality and 15 families are living in Srivagad of Duhun.
