The commission sent the information of registration of two new parties to the parliament
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 27 – The Election Commission has sent information to the Federal Parliament Secretariat that the CPN (Unified Socialist) led by Madhav Kumar Nepal and the Democratic Socialist Party led by Mahanta Thakur have been registered.
The letter states that the CPN (Unified Socialist) has 30 MPs and the Democratic Socialist Party has 14 MPs.
The commission has also informed the Parliament Secretariat that it has received a request from four more UML MPs to stay in the CPN (Unified Socialist) in the last election.
When Madhav Nepal applied for registration of a new party in the Election Commission on August 18, MPs Som Prasad Pandey, Maya Gyawali, Tulsa Thapa and Shardadevi Bhatta had applied to the Election Commission for identification on August 25. However, the commission has not taken any decision regarding their application.
After the government brought an ordinance to split the party by sending 20 per cent to the federal parliament or central committee, the UML split and the CPN (Unified Socialist) and People’s Socialist Party (JSP) split and became the Democratic Socialist Party.
Both the parties were registered by the Election Commission on August 25 after identifying the Central Committee and the parliamentarians.
