Jorginho wins UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award
KATHMANDU: AUGUST 27 – Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, who played a key role in helping Italy win the Euro Cup, has been named Player of the Year. UEFA, the apex body of European football, announced the winner in a ceremony on Thursday.
Jorginho has won the award behind Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne and Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante. Italian midfielder Jorginho was instrumental in helping Chelsea win the Champions League. Jorginho, 29, also won the UEFA Super Cup for Chelsea. He is also the first Chelsea player to win all major European titles. He has won the Champions League, Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and Euro Cup.
The women’s award was won by Alexia Putellas of Barcelona. The Men’s Coach of the Year award went to Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel. He overtook Pep Guardiola and Roberto Mancini. The Women’s Coach of the Year award went to Louis Cortes. Erling Haaland of Borussia Dortmund also bagged the Men’s Forward of the Season award in the individual category. On the women’s side, Jenni Hermoso of Barcelona won.
The men’s midfielder of the season was Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante and the women’s midfielder was Alexia Putellas of Barcelona. The Defender of the Season award was won by Ruben Dias of City in the men’s category and Irene Paredes of PSG in the women’s category. The men’s goalkeeper of the season award went to Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy, while the women’s award went to Barcelona’s Sandra Panos.
